Dark Mode Datapack Versions (2024)

Dark Mode Datapack is a Minecraft datapack created by Pingchu where it is constantly night and there is no ambient light from the moon where the challenge of the plugin is first getting light from torches. This page is a listing of all the versions of this Datapack.

There are four major versions of dark mode as of now from 1.0 to 1.4 with six minor versions, one on 1.0, four on 1.3, and one on 1.4, and three extremely minor versions from 1.4.1.1 to 1.4.1.3. 1.0 added the majority of the features in the overworld, nether, and end, while the rest add minor changes and a few advancements. 1.4 is the largest update since 1.0, possibly being larger, revamping the Norther in its entirety.

Dark Mode 1.0[]

1.0 was the first version of Dark Mode created. It is the first publicly available version of Dark Mode.

Additions[]

General[]

• Frost damage is taken every 40 seconds in the Norther
• Snow particles spawn around the player
• Upon entering the Norther, the portal breaks and lava buckets, torches, flint and steel, and plants are removed from entering
• The only way to enter back into the Overworld is to create a fire charge to light back the Norther Portal
• Upon lighting another Norther Portal in the Norther with a fire charge, portals no longer close once entered
• After the player leaves the Norther successfully, whenever entering the Norther from then on, the player loses 3 experience points

• Two new advancements, one when you enter the Norther, and one when you exit the Norther

Biomes/Dimensions[]

Dead World and Norther

• Fog recolored to white in Dead World
• All lava replaced with powdered snow, except for in Nether Fortresses in Lava wells and in Bastion Remnants
• All top layers of material replaced with snow in Dead World
• The only mobs that spawn outside of structures are skeletons, and, rarely, creepers
• Ghasts and striders no longer spawn
• Lava flows like in the overworld
• Crying Obsidian sometimes spawns
• Netherrack blocks near the Norther roof are replaced by Snow

Haven

• There is an skylight across the Haven
• Villages, Amethyst Geodes, and Dungeons spawn in the Haven

Pair of Dice

• Pair of Dice is like End (Biome) but has overworld blocks, including stone, ores, grass, and dirt
• Pair of Dice is the equivalent of the Dark Forest Biome
• Pair of Dice has cyan grass

Oceania

• Oceania is like End Barrens but is a large Ocean which spawns lava caves throughout it, resulting in both lava and obsidian patches in the water
• Glow Squid spawn in Oceania

Mutual Grounds

• Mutual grounds is like Pair of Dice but hostile mobs cannot spawn and the grass and water is purple
• Mutual Grounds has the ability to spawn melons
• Lava pockets will occasionally spawn, including striders at certain points

Other[]

• There is no ambient light from the moon and no daytime in the Overworld
• Instead of 8 blocks in the overworld being 1 block in the Norther, it takes 5 blocks in the Norther to go 1 block in the overworld
• When fishing, fish no longer appear in the fishing loot table in the Norther
• Amethyst sounds play randomly in the Norther
• Respawn Anchors explode in the Norther
• Nothing burns infinitely in the Norther
• Respawn Anchors work in the Haven

Dark Mode 1.0.1[]

1.0.1 was the first minor update which removed Villages spawning due to them being too overpowered in Dark Mode.

Dark Mode 1.1[]

1.1 is a major update along with being the first major update made to Dark Mode which was created due to Pingchu wanting a way for people to see the surrounding landscape in the Dark without having it be an overpowered way of doing it.

• When above Y-79 and when nearby a light source, telescopes will apply night vision in the Overworld

1.2 is a major update which accounted for Villagers accidentally being accessible in the overworld.

Dark Mode 1.3[]

1.3, also known as Dark Mode+, is a major update which added an advancement, a smithing recipe for tridents, and a few glitches. All versions past this are known as updates of Dark Mode+.

• You can no longer glitch in torches into the norther during a 1-tick gap
• The icon for the Norther Advancements tab changes from a Blue Ice Block to a Torch, along with the name for the Advancements tab changing from Desolation. to Let there be light!
• Desolation. is no longer the root advancement of the Norther advancements, instead being Let there be light!
• The version is updated to 1.20.4 from 1.20.2
• A paradise isn't enough..? and Welcome Home! now give mending books as rewards.

Dark Mode 1.3.1[]

1.3.1 is a minor update of Dark Mode+ which was uploaded primarily to fix a glitch with the frozen items shattering text, along with making bundles accessible.

Additions[]

• Bundle recipe added, requiring 3 wool and 1 string to craft
• Netherite tools and lodestone can be smelted into a Netherite Ingot, though it takes a long time

Changes[]

• Fixed a bug that repeatedly said 'You hear some frozen items shatter in your inventory...' after freezing any item in the Norther, continuing until you logged off

Dark Mode 1.3.2[]

1.3.2 is a minor update of Dark Mode+ which added a new advancement and a new feature.

Dark Mode 1.4[]

1.4 is a major update of Dark Mode and Dark Mode+. It revamps many features of the Norther along with updating it to 1.20.6.

General[]

• The 'freeze damage' system is overhauled
• Certain biomes cause you to freeze faster
• When you have leather armor, are on fire, in a Fortress or Bastion, or have Netherite armor on, you have a chance to avoid getting hit by the freeze damage
• Having no armor causes you to freeze quickly, with powdered snow and water freezing you the quickest
• A 'Norther Cake' recipe, requiring you to get an advancement to unlock the recipe. Requires three snow, one blue ice, two gunpowder, two prismarine, and one amethyst, you can either place it and eat it or eat it in your hand

Norther

Snow Plains

• Renamed 'Dead World' to 'Snow Plains'
• Snow Plains has dark blue water
• Second warmest biome

Frozen Forest

• Are a frozen equivalent of the Warped Forest
• Warped Big Fungus equivalent where Warped Log is Packed Ice, the Leaves are Ice, and the Shroomlights are Blue ice
• Rare Variation of the Warped Big Fungus equivalent where the log is Stripped Warped Log and the Shroomlight is Amethyst
• Frozen Forest water color is dark blue
• Endermen, Creepers, and Skeletons Spawn
• Warmest of all biomes

Icy Deltas

• Are a frozen equivalent of Basalt Deltas
• Instead of Lava, Powder Snow spawns and instead of Magma, there is Ice
• Pillagers often spawn in large packs
• Icy Deltas water color is a lighter version of dark blue
• Roof is made of Blue Ice
• Second coldest biome

Snow Ocean

• Coldest biome
• Loud wind sound throughout the biome
• Tons of particles
• Spawns Vex rarely
• Is a Powder Snow ocean
• Spawns soul sand on the edges sometimes

Snow Ocean Delta

• Transitional biome between Snow Ocean and Icy Deltas
• Combines features of both biomes

Deep Norther

• Underground-only biome
• Third coldest biome
• No snow particles
• Creepers and Skeletons spawn

Changes[]

• All ruined portals are changed to have powdered snow instead of lava and ice instead of magma, blue ice randomly spawns in the Netherrack as well
• Only 10% of obsidian in ruined portals is replaced with Crying Obsidian
• In the ruined portal loot table, snowballs spawn instead of fire charges

Dark Mode 1.4.1[]

1.4.1 is a minor update of Dark Mode and Dark Mode+ which modified some parts of the Norther.

1.4.1.1, 1.4.1.2 and 1.4.1.3 are extremely minor bugfix updates which attempt to fix the crashes occurring on the Dark Mode Server.
