Thanks Becky: My wife loves Potato soup but I've never got the nerve to try it. I will probably make this for her. I've been reading your Book lately (what a blessing) I recently lost my dad suddenly from a heart attack even though he seemed to be healthy and wasn't a drinker or smoker but a strong Christian man since 1974. My mother has been going through trying to be a Widow but is very strong in her Faith. She and Dad raised up all 4 of us boys in a christian home home cooking all meals at home, your book reminds me so much of all that. Mom don't consider herself to be a very good cook but she taught me more than she will every realize about cooking. I'm 52 now and been married 31 yrs and we both enjoy your videos, testimony and biblical truths you share. Love ya. Larry Robinson

Thank you for your comments about MSG and additives. So many ads on tv for drugs for migraines…msg is in fast foods, restaurant foods, and frozen dinners. It is not good for anyone!

Love your videos. Since my mother passed away when I was a child, I relied on cookbooks and recipes in Women’s magazine to teach me how to cook. Wish we had videos back then! But, glad our childhoods were simple and full of nature and natural homegrown food.

Just made this today. Yummo! I did add some celery at the start, and some dill weed at the end, and I used milk that was 5 days past its sell by date…….dunno if that enhanced the flavor or not, lol. I did have a sniff of it to make sure it hadn't gone off It was VERY yellow during cooking, so I may leave out the carrot the next time I make it.

Rebecca, I love your voice. I also am so loving your channel. I found it when I was looking for how to make goulash, which is what my mom used to make. My parents were born during the Great Depression and the recipes you have are the foods she probably learned from my grandmother. And when I bring up your videos my husband shouts out yes haw, and makes me laugh. I also love that your a Christian and not afraid to profess it. God bless you.

Now for my question. Will plant based milk work in your potato soup?

My mom made this a lot during the winter with a big iron skillet of cornbread. We always put grated cheese on top after we put it in our bowl🥰 I can remember having this after I’d been outside sledding & playing in the snow!! Great memories♥♥♥♥

I'm your age and I grew up on tater soup. We ate it 3 times a week during the oil crunch of the 70's. No matter what we had in our cupboards, we could always have tater soup. We had a small 1/2-acre field we grew taters in. A dairy farm down the road gave us all the milk we wanted in exchange for me helping with morning milking a few days a week.

I've had it with ham, venison, rabbit, bacon…heck I've even had it with woodchuck. when my grandad was still alive. He grew up in the depression and acquired a taste for woodchuck and crawdads.

To this day it's a family favorite.

I grew up on potato soup. Its similar to yours but not exactly. I make much bigger batches for one thing. I use 10 pounds of potatoes for a full batch. Some people talk about all the other things they put in their soup, you put in something i don't.
My recipe is very simple. I use potatoes, onions, butter, evaporated milk, salt, pepper, chives and parsley. I only use enough water to cook the potatoes, I have drained some out before if the water level was over the potatoes when done.
I use only canned milk, it's just what my mother and grandmother used.
I do have family members who like to add to the soup once in their bowl. Therefoe I put bowls of cheese, bacon, fresh chives, sour cream and anything else they want on the table so they can add to their bowl of soup.
Personally I do not want anything else in mine unless its cornbread. 😊

Thank you Becky , I really love all the simpley made home made food without all the extras. I have suffered from MSG headachs all my days. If something has msg in it , my head will start pounding befor I even finish the meal. The cost of food at the grocery store is out of controll , so simply recipes that taste great like yours , with less ingredents are a blessing.

My grandma used canned evaporated milk. And celery. The best soup ever

I never understood why anyone would use broth and call it potatoe soup. I make mine like yours except the carrot and i only add s pinch of cheese baco. And green oniond on top for those who want it.
